Bullying begins in childhood, but the effects can last a lifetime. Bullying can happen anywhere and appears in a variety of ways. Bullies may attack their victims in the school, on the playground or on the school bus. Or they may reach them online or through texting.

Bullying may take place verbally (as in threats and name calling), socially (spreading rumors or telling other students not to be friends with the victim) or physically (hitting, tripping or stealing another student’s things). Whatever the type or wherever it takes place, bullying causes serious effects on both the victim and the one doing the bullying, as well as witnesses.  28 % of students in grades 6-12 have experienced bullying, and 20 % of students in grades 9-12 have been victims. لعبه وايت Thirty percent of students admitted to bullying others. Low self-esteem and lack of confidence are two of the most common effects of being bullied. This leads to other problems including difficulty landing or holding jobs, working in menial jobs, depression and suicidal thoughts. An adult who was bullied as a child often experiences problems in relationships as the ability to trust other people can be impaired. Anxiety, loneliness, difficulty sleeping, health challenges, nightmares, and losing interest in activities that were once enjoyed can all affect the target of a bully. Many victims, after being bullied, never feel safe again in any situation.

One particularly terrifying result of bullying is the victim who is so full of anger, hate, and the desire for revenge, that he becomes a school shooter. الطاولة على الانترنت Statistics shows that in the 1990’s the vast majority of school shooters had been bullied as children.

It is not only the bully’s target who suffers from the act of bullying. The one doing the bullying endures consequences as well. As adults they are more likely to get into trouble with the law, and many become abusive to their spouse and children.

Even bystanders are affected. They may skip school, suffer from anxiety or depression, and become substance abusers.

In order to avoid issues that can haunt a bully’s target for a lifetime, it is vital that victims are helped, that the signs of bullying are recognized, and the cycle is ended.  A good source to find out more about how to tell if someone is being bullied, or is a bully, and what action to take, can be found on the site www.stopbullying.gov.
